“Taff” or “Coach Cuddles”

Phil was born in 1963 in the country of Wales.  His competitive nature had him playing in many sports, but he soon claimed rugby as his favorite.  He played second row on occasion, but was most skillful as loose-head prop.  Phil joined Her Majesty’s British Army as a junior leader at the age of sixteen.  After approximately one year, he became a British soldier in the Army’s Royal Engineers and was active for sixteen years.  Phil has been coaching at Bishop Hendricken since 2007.  He keeps current with the latest rugby techniques by attending numerous clinics and workshops.

Rugby History
Phil began playing rugby in Wales (United Kingdom) in 1973 while in junior school.
Phil represented the Mid-Glamorgan Boys Clubs under 19s at the age of sixteen.
He represented the British Army under 19s.
Phil was Captain of the Combined (British) Services under 19s.
He represented the Combined Services under 21s.
He represented the Corp of Royal Engineers for over 10 years.
He represented the British Army Rugby Union.
He represented the British Army of the Rhine against Holland, Sweden, and the Royal Air Force of Germany.
He representedSurrey County (England) in the County Championships.
Phil was Captain and Coach of the Regimental team.

Awards/Achievements    

    Captained Junior Leaders’ Regiment Royal Engineers Rugby Team and led them to the Junior Army Cup win, 1981.
